Boring question: SRE and DevOps roles. How are they different or whats the overlap
I got a job offer for SRE role, the job description sounds like DevOps engineer(CICD, Jenkins, GCP, Kubernetes, automation...), but also be on-call, support prod and keep the lights up kind of responsibilites. I do not know what an SRE is or how it is different from a typical DevOps eng role.
But this is my understanding, correct me if i am wrong,
- DevOps - Is a philosphy to deliver the software product faster, but also have a good handle on speed and stability.
- SRE - Does what a typical Ops person would do, but also embraces some or all the preachings of DevOps, in that process might leverage CICD, IaC, automation techniques.
Apologies if my analogy or understanding is a naive, feel free to share your personal opinion on what an SRE and DevOps eng roles are.
