It says a lot about an artist when they are able to succeed independently, and Kota the Friend is as good an example as any, directing his own music videos, producing his own songs and resisting record labels. However, as we all know, you can’t do it all on your own, and Kota knows that too, as he says in his most recent single “Dragon”; 

“Even if you independent, no man is an island. Do not put your stock in fresh trends and diamonds.”

Last week Kota the Friend dropped a surprise single titled “Dragon”, his latest solo release since his album “Everything”. Earlier in the year Kota had mentioned through his Twitter that an album would be releasing October 16th, and proceeded to never follow up, but impressed his fanbase with “Dragon”. Although Kota hasn’t swayed too far from his earlier sounds off of “Paloma Beach” and “Palm Tree Liquor”, he has certainly continued to perfect his craft, as we heard in “Everything” and once again in “Dragon”. 

Kota takes the listener through his past lessons, providing insight about the music industry, life and relationships. Saying to make time for others and appreciate them while you have them. The combination of these real life lessons alongside Kota’s nonchalant and melodic flow on top of the laid back guitar based production creates a feel good song for anyone who listens.

All in all, Kota the Friend stuck to his style with this one and continues to improve his sound with every drop and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
