Keeping up with the Joneses

Most of the people on this sub subscribe to devops as a developer mindset instead of a role which means that we are already really good at being a developer and we also have specific devops skills. I have to fight back against my company's management when they want to make me into a full fledged devops person in the company.

Not to sound negative, but I have my hands full with things that I am involved with as a full stack developer that has a devops focus. The developer list goes as follows: Css, UX design, a few Css libraries, jаvascript, jаvascript frameworks and libraries, backend language, database, sql, orm, and git. My devops list is as follows : Azure, cicd, docker, kubernetes, scripting, networking, and Azure's version of logging and monitoring. I am by no means an expert in anything, with the exception of the backend language. However, I don't use all the newest bells and whistles and haven't stayed up to date in over two years of the backend language, so you can argue that I have lost touch with it.

I have mentioned on this sub before that I don't know ansible, and I got attacked that is crazy that I don't know it as a senior developer with devops skills. My current role has no need for it, and additionally, I haven't had the chance to study ansible during my free time to see if it is something that I want to introduce at my company.

It's very easy to get out of date with devops espicially if your company isn't a 100 percent Gung ho in devops. Whenever you try to introduce a new tool to your team or company, it will be a uphill battle getting acceptance. If your company rejects your ansible initiative, then ansible will always be a void on your resume.

In summary, how do you stay up with the joneses in this sub. I find it very difficult, technically as well as politically at my company. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better for me to stop with the devops madness and stick with being a typical full stack developer, who is oblivious to the details of docker and kubernetes (I will let the devops guy handle it)
