Lithuania’s Health Ministry reported on Thursday 1,553 new cases of Covid-19.

Almost a 1,000 of the new cases were registered in the country’s post populous counties of Vilnius (505), Kaunas (273), and Klaipėda (214). The other new cases were registered in the counties of Panevėžys (133), Šiauliai (116), Telšiai (95), Alytus (77), Tauragė (70), Marijampolė (29), and Utena (21).

The biggest reported clusters surround social care homes and hospitals across the county.

Other outbreaks have been connected to local administrations, Draugystė and Saulutė sanatoriums in Druskininkai resort, Gemma rehabilitation centre in Vilnius, and a cultural centre in Mažeikiai, northwestern Lithuania.

A total of 1,092 people ill with Covid-19 are currently hospitalised, including 83 who are in intensive care.

Nine people have died from the virus, and another 11 coronavirus-infected patients have died of other causes.

A total of 29,812 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Lithuania since the start of the pandemic. The country currently has 22,382 active cases and 7,096 recoveries.

The coronavirus death toll has reached 244 in Lithuania and 91 infected people have died of other causes.

Some 84,240 people are currently in isolation.

The country has since June 1 registered 433 cases of coronavirus infection contracted abroad.

A total of 1,146,969 tests for Covid-19 have been carried out in Lithuania so far, including 14,455 over the past 24 hours.
