Saturday Gambling Guide – 01/09/21
By Tim Birkmeyer If you follow me on Twitter (@ItsReallyTimmyB), which you should, you know I have a list of teams not to bet on, known as THE LIST. It’s for bad beats, dumb bets, trap bets, etc. and it grows almost every night. So far, there are three teams on THE LIST, and Michigan State basketball is the recent addition. I bet the spread (-5) as the Spartans were home against Purdue. The Spartans were up by 15 points at halftime and the lead got up to 17 in the 2nd half, only to lose by 1 point in the end. That is what will get you on THE LIST. Had Purdue came back a little bit, maybe back door covered, definitely a bad beat, but maybe list-worthy. If you have any teams that you would like to add to THE LIST, please let me know! Anyways, let’s look at the board. There is a full-slate of college basketball and some NFL Playoff games as well to keep us going on this Saturday. Unfortunately, I am missing out on the noon-slate while writing this, and I want to make sure everyone has time to get their bets in for these games, so I’ll focus on the mid-afternoon and night games. Once again, I’ll provide you with five (5) picks, so let’s get into the picks! *Note/Disclaimer: I am not a gambling genius. Please take my picks with a side of caution, and please bet responsibly. Also, these are lines from the day before, so they might be a bit different.* NFL Seattle Seahawks Team Total OVER 21.5 Points (-120) The Seahawks’ Team Total hit for most of the first half of the season, and for that I am thankful. In the second half of the season, not so much. But, in their last 4 games, they are averaging 26 points per game. Yes, there was one outlier with a 40-point effort against the Jets, but the other three games were 20, 20, and 26 points. One of those 20-pointers came against the Rams. The Rams’ defense is elite, but vulnerable to give up points, especially in games that they lose. With so many injuries and questions surrounding the Rams offense, the Seahawks are winning this game. The Seahawks are NFC West Champions, and will show the Rams that and return to 30+ points in the game. Football Team (+9.5) vs. Buccaneers (-107) You know that Gif of Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm where he’s like shrugging around and going like “ehhhh”? Yeah, that’s me looking at this game and the lines. The ML is too big to go with the Bucs, the Over/Under and Team Totals are hit or miss because this game could really go either way. I can see the Bucs winning a close one, the Football Team pulling off an upset, a shootout, or a Bucs’ blowout. But, I think the logical pick here is a close, low-scoring game. The Football Team’s defense is scary good, and Tom Brady (although one of the bests ever) is old. To me, this will play out like the Bucs Thursday Night Game against the Bears this season. Brady really struggles, but this time the Bucs squeak out a win. Plus, it’s the playoffs, 9.5 is an absurd spread no matter who is playing. College Basketball Baylor Team Total OVER 78.5 Points @ TCU (-115) The spread for this game is a little too big for my liking. Even with no fans, home-court advantage is still a factor and it’s not worth a double-digit spread. But, Baylor likes to score, averaging over 90 points per game and 84 in conference games. TCU is coming off a home loss to Kansas while also giving up 93 points. This should hit pretty easy I think, and it’s always nice to know in basketball, there’s no running out the clock really. Teams have to continuously shoot, and Baylor is shooting over 50%, they will dominate the stat-sheet this afternoon! Florida (-4.5) vs. Kentucky (-107) Usually, this is a marquee matchup in the SEC, but Kentucky is bad this year so far and Florida is probably where they should be, but could have won the two games they lost. Florida is undefeated at home this season, and are good at beating bad teams. Both of these two teams played at Vanderbilt, Florida won by 19 and Kentucky barely won by 3 points. Florida is going to win, and I think they will win somewhere between 6 and 8 points. The score will suggest a bit close, but Florida will have control the entire time. PAC-12 (+Nevada) After Dark PARLAY: UCLA (+3.5), Oregon and San Diego St. ML (+280) We hit last week’s parlay barely, so it will return! This week, we make it a little more interesting with UCLA (+3.5) on the road against Arizona. UCLA is on a 3-game win streak and Arizona’s last two games are a 2OT win and a home lose by 6 points. Pretty simple: UCLA is on a streak and Arizona is struggling. UCLA is 7-3 ATS this season, and look for them to make is 8-3. If you want, you could substitute UCLA ML to bring it to (+380), but the cover is more likely. In the other games, Utah is 4-3 with only one of those wins coming against a legit school and are struggling to score, Oregon should win (key word: should). And the Aztecs took care of Nevada the other night only winning by 6 points, and now the spread is 11? Ok, Vegas. But remember, we are 1-0 in our last 1 late night parlays! And that will do it for the gambling picks in the world of sports today! Are you going to ride with me or fade me and my picks? What is your LOCK of the day?
