Lenovo System X critical server down, any help appreciated
Hi, This is a request for advice or help. One of my company's hypervisors went down and I found two issues in IMM2. I don't know where to start. Here's my scenario:
The server unexpectedly rebooted in Sept. It came back up with no issues. It went down again on NYE and came back up without intervention. Three days ago, the dev mgr. reported a couple vm's were down. This host server was unresponsive remotely and then via on-site console session. When I hard booted I saw BSOD: error code: INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE. Same on subsequent boots.
Win 2016 Datacenter Hyper-V host on IBM Lenovo System x3650 M5 Type 8871. Warranty ran out in June 2020.
2 SCSI controllers per IMM2 which connected just fine.
- ServeRAID M5210 (5 disks)
a. Severity: Warning
b. Event ID 488
c. Message: Warning Host driver needs to be upgraded to enable extended LD support
- ServRAID M1215 (2 disks)
a. Severity: Dead
b. Event ID 15
c. Message: Warning Fatal firmware error: Line 960 in ../../raid/1078main.c
I found a Lenovo post which basically says what is below about a similar error (just the line number is different) M1215 Controller: The behavior will be corrected in version 6.704.12.00 of the ServeRAID MR Device driver for Windows Server
· I can’t boot so not sure how to see the present Windows driver version nor do I know how I’d update it with the OS down. Can that be done via IMM2?
Regarding the M5210 controller – its from AVAGO technologies, firmware version 24.9.0-0029 released 11/06/2015MegaRAID Controller Firmware package. I found a Lenovo article under Data Center Support > servers > system-x > System x3650 M5 - Type 8871 with exact scenario but, the solution is only for RedHat
I would be very grateful for any advice on what to fix first as I don’t know if the warning is causing the critical issue or vice versa.
