Samsung Is Developing a Wine-Pouring Robot

At this year’s all-virtual, online-only Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021 earlier this week, Samsung announced a bunch of new products and latest innovations designed to provide “a better normal for all.”

The company has developed a Bot Handy robot prototype that can put dirty dishes in the sink, fold clothes, and pour wine into a glass. Cameras and artificial intelligence technologies are used for object recognition.

President at Samsung Research, Sebastian Seung, said the robot is intended to be an extension of humans in the kitchen, living room, and wherever an extra hand may be needed. The company is going to train Bot Handy also to pick up laundry, load the dishwasher, set the table, pour drinks into glasses, and bring them to people.

According to the company, the robot can detect the material from which the object is made and grip it with the necessary force, depending on the size, weight, and shape.

However, it is not yet known when Bot Handy will hit the market as Samsung did not announce its price or release window. Moreover, the company usually used CES to showcase futuristic concepts rather than real products. The robot is currently in development, Samsung says.

In addition, the company showed an updated version of Bot Care, a robotic assistant that can take care of its owner, reminding the person when to take a break from work. It can also remind you of important events and appointments.

As far as actual products are concerned, Samsung actually plans to release one robot this year – it’s JetBot 90 AI+. It is a vacuum robot equipped with LIDAR, a 3D sensor, and AI. All this helps the robot to avoid obstacles. It will also be able to get closer to non-fragile objects like toys and stay away from those that can easily break, like glasses. It will be available in the US later this year.
