The Crisis in America

Joe Biden will take the Presidential Oath of Office on January 20, 2021. He is the next president of the United States. In one way, it is that simple.
But a large number of citizens do not believe that Biden won the election. President Donald Trump says that he won the election. The first question is did Trump win the election? The second question is if Trump did not win the election, why do so many people believe he did?
As a candidate and as president, Trump knew what some people wanted to hear. And he knew in a crude way how to tell them.
Millions of Americans were not happy with the way the country was going. There was a huge loss of jobs over the last decades. Many of the jobs lost were in the business of making products. Those jobs were the heart of America’s economy. It is not a surprise that resentment was building in America.
Trump was without hesitation or moral scruples. He denounced the people and forces that led to the loss of jobs. He was also untruthful about anything that did not fit his message.
Trump won the election in 2016. He knew no bounds. Members of the Republican Party became afraid of him and his influence on his supporters. They would do whatever Trump wanted them to do. This is how dictators get started.
Many white Americans have become afraid of changes in the country. Feelings that black people are not as good as white people grew. Increases in the number of people of Asian and Hispanic background triggered fear. Were whites losing control of their country?
When Trump lost the 2020 election, he spun out of control. He even asked an unknown number of men and women to help him change the results of the election.
The craziest thing he did was to believe he could change the outcome of the election. But intimidation and lying had worked for him before. So why not now?
It would not work now because he had no idea of how American laws work. In America, there is a system. The states conduct the elections. They count the votes for each candidate. They announce which candidate got the most votes.
Trump had two things going for him. There was an angry mob out there who believed him. There were many Republican politicians who were afraid of him.
It all came together last week in Washington, D.C. With the backing of Republican Party people a mob erupted and stormed the Capitol building.
Now, the cleanup begins. As Trump was the cause of the rioting, he has to pay a price for his words and his role. The House of Representatives can impeach him. That means he goes to trial for his actions. The trial would take place in the Senate when he is out of office. A conviction could mean he cannot run for the Presidency again.
Charges of causing the riot with his words will mean that he will be hounded by the law and lawsuits in the future. He will find no place to hide.
People died in the riot. The rioters will pay a price.
Will voters punish the politicians who helped Trump? That remains to be seen.
There is one more hurdle. No one knows for sure what will happen on Inauguration Day. Will there be a mob? This time, there will be preparations.
After that, Joe Biden will be the American President and the world will go forward.
