OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei Launched Nothing, a New Brand Focused on Consumer Tech

co-founder Carl Pei, who parted with the company last year, has announced a new consumer technology startup that will be based in London. The first "smart devices" will be released in the first half of this year.

Carl Pei’s new company is called , and its mission is to “remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future.” In December 2020, Pei raised $7 million from many investors, including Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, YouTuber Casey Neistat, Reddit co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman, and others.

After revealing his new project, Carl Pei did not reveal anything particular, and it is unclear what products Nothing plans to produce. When Pei was at OnePlus, the company used to release all kinds of devices from and to TVs.

Nothing is expected to release smart devices and eventually build a whole ecosystem of various devices. According to the startup’s founder, Nothing plans to initially make most of its profits from hardware rather than software subscriptions.

Pei’s new company also plans to use “custom made” components for its products to differentiate them from other companies.
