Xtra Time Web Desk: An epic knock (210*)  from debutant Kyle Mayers handed West Indies an improbable win against Bangladesh in the first test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. West Indies successfully chased the target of 395 runs with three wickets in hand on the final day of the test match.

The visitors started the day on 110 for 3 with two overnight batsmen Bonner and Mayers. In the morning session both the batsmen gave some sharp chances but got away thanks to couple of drop catches. They added 87 runs in the session and remained unbeaten.

Post lunch break spinners were attacking from both ends but their effort went in vain as Mayers and Bonner kept on batting for yet another session. Finally after the tea break Taijul Islam broke the record partnership by trapping Bonner lbw for 86. Soon after that Nayeem Hasan struck on the other end as Bangladesh were looking for a comeback in the match.

But West Indies debutant Mayers stood like a wall as he launched a counter-attack on the Bangladesh bowlers on the last hour of the match. Despite losing two late wickets, Mayers’s big hitting helped West Indies to clinch a memorable win at the end. Mayers remained unbeaten on 210 to guide his side a 3-wicket win. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scalped 4 wickets for 113.

The second and final Test of the series will be held on Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium starting from February 11.
