Harvey Weinstein Indicted In Los Angeles On 11 Sexual Assault Charges

Convicted sex offender is being indicted in Los Angeles on another 11 charges of sexual assault. Along with his brother Bob, the disgraced movie mogul was once the head of now-defunct entertainment companies Miramax and The Weinstein Company. These companies were responsible for producing several award-winning films, including The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, and Chicago.
The most recent in October of 2020, shortly after being sentenced to 23 years in a New York prison for rape charges. However, his extradition to California faced long delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. In his New York trial, in the third degree and criminal sexual acts in the first degree. His pending case in California includes five alleged incidents in Beverly Hills between 2004 and 2013.
Now, per , Weinstein is finally being indicted in Los Angeles on 11 charges of sexual assault. The indictment includes 11 felony counts of rape and sexual battery. If convicted, Weinstein could face 140 years to life in prison. At an extradition hearing held today, Weinstein's attorney Norman Effman requested extra time to file a writ of habeas corpus due to a missing signature on the paperwork, which will only further delay Weinstein's extradition to California. Effman also argued that his client's health prevents him from being extradited to Los Angeles to begin his criminal trial.

According to his attorney, Weinstein is "almost technically blind" and needs surgery. Effman also listed a litany of , including cardiac problems, back issues, sleep apnea. Weinstein’s next extradition hearing is scheduled for April 30th. If convicted on these 11 charges of sexual assault, Weinstein would serve out his two sentences consecutively.
While the wheels of justice indeed turn slowly, Weinstein will eventually be extradited to California and , even if it has to be done virtually. Weinstein's poor health and the ongoing pandemic have only further complicated this case and prevented it from playing out in a timely fashion. However, these indictments further solidify the disgraced film producer's fate, which already seemed likely due to his previous trial. Currently 69 years old, Harvey Weinstein will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
