The IBM Food Trust is now making the first Swedish blockchain beer available, in which the entire production process can be verified and tracked. The production is by Ängölbrewery and the project Helt Spårat has been possible through the traceability integrator Foodchain by Blockchain and the trading platform Skira. The purpose is to be able to completely document a consumer product using blockchain technology through all processes, from the time the first malt grain is sown until the beer is bottled.

There are many advantages to Blockchain technology

Blockchain is relatively unused in food production, but there are many advantages to the technology that allow several players to share the same data in an unbroken chain. The company Foodchain by Blockchain is one of the first players in the world to use the technology to document the processes at farm level and then pass on data further up the production chain.

With a whole new level of communication between farmers, suppliers and brewers, the end consumer can also easily take part in Helt Spårat’s production chain, manufacturing process and the complete history of the product, just by scanning the QR code on the bottle.

Another important player in Helt Spårat is the digital trading platform Skira, which initiated the project. They offer a full-service platform for trading in grain and have been able to share the information in the project digitally and integrated. At their digital trading venue, the quality of the grain is displayed before sale and during transport, an extra analysis sample is taken, which enables buyers to find lots that suit them.
