Just as we had suspected, the Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa seasons both came to thrilling conclusions in Saturday's grand final doubleheader.

Test match intensity, double doses of breakdancing, and the wildest finish you'll ever see, left the rugby public in need of their own Sunday recovery sessions.

Reds 19, Brumbies 16

That was from a pumped up Tim Horan on Nine and Stan Sport after the Queensland Reds won their first title since 2011.

And as more than 41,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium went nuts , it's hard to argue.

All season long Brad Thorn's men have been the form team, while the Brumbies have been their fiercest competitors.

Their trilogy of games this year have been like the Rocky movies, with punch and counter punch, back and forth, over and over.

The grand final match was the most tense and close of all, with the Reds forwards turning the screws in the dying moments to set Super Rugby AU MVP O'Connor free to grab the defining score.

An ill-discplined Brumbies were extremely gallant in defeat, but just couldn't hold out a rampant Reds side when defending with only 13 men.

Taniela Tupou pulled out some surprise breakdance celebrations and an emotional Mother's Day dedication to wrap proceedings, as both teams look to recover from this epic match, to begin Super Rugby Trans-Tasman next week.

Crusaders 24, Chiefs 13

This was the breakdancing everyone was expecting.

Coach Scott Robertson performed his annual dance routine following the Crusaders' fifth Super Rugby title in succession.

The Chiefs came onto Orangetheory Stadium with a clear game plan – get the ball to Damian McKenzie.

The electric fullback was seemingly everywhere for the Chiefs, scoring all of their points.

He did have a rare off night with the boot though – missing three penalty shots at goal, which meant the Chiefs were always chasing the game.

In the big moments though, it was the heart of the Crusaders that came through after yellow cards to Codie Taylor and Sevu Reece saw the red and blacks reduced to 13 men midway through the second half.

That's when a guy named Richie Mo'unga stepped up and took control of the game, with the result being comfortable in the end.

The champion Crusaders now welcome a devastated Brumbies to kick start Super Rugby Trans-Tasman.

Should be a cracker.
