The Detroit Lions agreed to extend 2020 Pro Bowl C Frank Ragnow to a record deal on Thursday. The extension is well deserved, as Ragnow is now the highest-paid Center in league history in terms of average annual value. With the absence of LeBron and AD for much of this season, Kyle Kuzma is proving to be the third piece that LA needs to repeat. Fred VanVleet hit a clutch 3 to send Toronto’s contest with D.C. to OT, Caris LeVert powered the Pacers past Atlanta, and PSO remembers baseball legend and all-time Giants great Willie Mays on his 90th birthday

Detroit Lions made Frank Ragnow the highest-paid Center in NFL history

The Detroit Lions and Center  agreed to a 4y/$54M contract extension that includes $42M in guaranteed money. Signed through 2026, the extension makes Ragnow the highest paid player at his position in NFL history with an average annual value of $13.5M.

The 24-year-old is entering his fourth NFL season after being drafted in the first round (20th overall) by Detroit out of Arkansas in 2018. He has started all 45 games he has played in and is coming off his best season yet as a pro, earning his first career Pro Bowl nod in 2020.

Ragnow is a foundational piece for the rebuilding Lions, who are looking to build up the offensive line to protect newly-acquired QB this season and beyond. Detroit also addressed their O-line in this years’ draft, selecting No. 7 overall after the Oregon product somewhat surprisingly fell to them. The deal also means that Ragnow becomes the second first rounder from his draft class to receive a long-term extension, joining fellow O-Lineman,  (Raiders).

KYLE KUZMA IS PROVING TO BE THE THIRD PIECE LA NEEDS

The Los Angeles Lakers are the reigning NBA champions but have not had quite the success they were hoping for this season. A large reason for this was the injuries to  and . With these two missing time, there have been more opportunities for other players to step up and showcase their skills. One player who has taken great advantage of this is .

The fourth-year forward from the University of Utah has shown recently that he can be a key player on this team, and is able to pick up some of the slack if their two All-Stars are having an off night. He had an immediate impact when he came into the league as a rookie, and is now reminding fans why he was regarded so highly. His performances are going to be key for the Lake show through the playoffs.

Although currently sitting at sixth in the Western Conference, LA still has the  to win the championship according to Vegas. They are behind only the Brooklyn Nets, who have three certified star players. In order to compete with them, LA likely needs a third key piece themselves, and Kuzma is looking like he can fit the part. A good postseason from him will really help the Lakers in their title defense, and he has shown signs that he’ll be ready for the challenge.
