If thinking about this summer, the very idea of it may be overwhelming. But by watching this mom's baby that have gone viral on TikTok, taking a baby to the beach can become a breeze.
Kate Bast uses TikTok to help other moms with helpful to get them through their day. From activities to cleaning and more, Bast has a plethora of ideas for all things baby. And with over 300,000 followers, fans believe that she has some great ideas.
While most of Bast's TikTok videos usually get tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of views, when she posted her hacks for a fun day at the beach with a baby, the viewership exploded. With over 6.9 million views and counting, this video is resonating with quite a few people.
Posted on April 16, Bast posted the video entitled, "Our top Baby Beach hacks! Hope these help for summer." Needless to say, the hacks are genius.
Because cannot go play in the ocean water due to its volatility, Bast thought of a way to bring the water to the toddler.
To do this, the mother-of-one suggests bringing a baby bathtub along to the beach. The bathtub gets filled up with seawater and then is allowed to heat up in the sunshine. And then when it is warm enough, the baby is placed in the bathtub for some fun water play.
Another hack is to bring a fitted sheet to the beach versus a large blanket for time spent out of the sand and water.
Bast shows how if large objects are placed in each of the four corners of the sheet, a playpen is automatically formed. Not only does this keep the baby from wandering off but keeps sand from coming into the space as well.
For those who tend to bring home a portion of the beach with them when cleaning up sand toys, Bast has a hack for that as well.
By placing all of the sand toys into a mesh bag, all of the sand that the toys accumulated can be shaken out and the toys can make their way into the car without leaving a pile of sand behind them when removed.
And, of course, one of the most important things for any parent to remember to do when spending time at the beach, is to apply sunscreen. Bast has that hack covered as well.
The hack for putting sunscreen on a baby is demonstrated on Bast's one-year-old daughter, Lily. Instead of applying sunscreen with the hands, using a make-up brush to do so seems to be an experience that calms babies down versus getting them upset over having hands in their face to apply the sunscreen.
recommends that children wear at least an SPF 30 for their sunscreen as well as protective clothing when out in the direct sun. This includes hats, long-sleeved swimming suits, and more.
And while those over the age of six months can spend short periods in direct sunlight, those six months of age and younger should not be in direct sunlight at all.
According to expert, Dr. Leah Lalor, who part of the department of dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, applying sunscreen in this manner is completely safe. The goal is to get the baby covered when out in the sun and if this is the way to make it happen, Lalor encourages it.
