Laura Bell Bundy Wants To Raise A "Feminist Son" | BabyGaga

A few years ago, when Laura Bell Bundy , she thought that she wanted a to be able to raise her as a strong woman who would not put up with any of the societal norms women have had to deal with for years. But when she found out she was , the Broadway star realized she was taking on the "greatest challenge" of her life and that was to raise a son without the old views of women.

For women who work in the entertainment industry, there are double standards that they have to deal with consistently. And while Bundy has worked on Broadway, television, and as a country music artist, according to , it took watching Hilary Clinton lose to Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential election to spurn her desire to become a women's rights activist as well.

Around the time of the election, the country music artist was pregnant. A dream realized as a result of , according to . And before knowing the gender of her baby, Bundy was set to have a baby girl and to help her rule the world by turning societal norms on their head. But as we know babies aren't extensions of us, they are their own person.

Having a baby girl was not in the cards though and Bundy found she was pregnant with a little boy. And that was when she realized, according to People, that she was facing the "greatest challenge" of her life.

"I'm raising a feminist son," the actress told the publication.

Bundy's goal is to "raise a son with a in which it's OK to feel what you feel and talk about it."

The mother-of-one went on to tell People, that she vowed to teach her son Huck, 2, whom she shares with husband, Thom Hinkle, "to respect women" as well as "show him a working woman in a household where we share tasks." Which if we really look it at, is that really a feminist son, or just a good human citizen? Man, woman, or whatever identity, we are all called to be respectful people who value each other as humans who bring something to the table, and that is good enough.

Some of those goals are being realized via a new album that Bundy released, entitled, Women of Tomorrow.

According to Broadway World, the album deals with issues most women have dealt with at one time or another, from not receiving equal pay to the constant need to feel like apologizing is necessary for being strong, societal beauty standards, men and women's relationships, and more.

The album was released right before Mother's Day, according to Bundy because of the "amazing opportunity and responsibility we have as Mothers to make a change in the world through our parenting," per the publication.

And raising Huck to be a man who does not "have these ideas about women that have persisted for far too many years," is not a responsibility that Bundy takes lightly, according to People. This is because for far too long, young boys have been taught by the men (and women) in their lives that the way society treats women is acceptable. This is something in the songwriter's household that will not be continued on with her son.

Bundy's goal in raising a feminist son is to not instill any of the outdated gender norms that exist and make sure that Huck sees men and women can do all things that have previously been labeled as belonging to one gender or another. All of which starts at home and thus far, a great foundation is being laid by Bundy for her son.
