Ted Ed Video Explores How To Recognize a Dystopia

Stories about dystopian societies have been entertaining people for years in books, comics, and movies. There’s something about these terrifying dystopian societies that capture the imagination. Having an organization controlling what people can and can’t do, and trying to force the world to be better and perfect never works out in these stories. There’s always something more sinister happening.

Anyway, if dystopian societies interest you, I’ve got a video here from Ted Ed from Alex Gender that explores how to recognize a dystopia:

The genre of dystopia – the ‘not good place’– has captured the imaginations of artists and audiences alike for centuries. But why do we bother with all this pessimism? Alex Gendler explains how dystopias act as cautionary tales – not about some particular government or technology, but the very idea that humanity can be molded into an ideal shape.
