A Star LA Stylist’s Year-Round Family Lake Cabin

Listen in when LA hair stylist Leanne Citrone trims Lauren Soloff’s platinum tresses, and you’ll hear upholstery choices and paint colors being parsed. The two became great friends when Leanne, co-owner of West Hollywood’s Andy LeCompte Salon (“LA’s most celeb-heavy beauty spot” according to Vogue) and Lauren, who runs her own , worked together on Leanne’s Hancock Park house. They’ve since tackled the Citrone family cabin in Lake Arrowhead and invited us in for a look.

A low-key alpine enclave in the San Bernardino Mountains, Lake Arrowhead is but an hour and a half east of LA, but “a completely different world,” says Leanne, “there’s even snow.” After years of trying to find an affordable weekend place, she discovered the area by accompanying her brother and sister-in-law on their own house hunting trip—”I returned the next weekend with my husband and our two kids; we saw ten places and bought the one closest to the lake.” Behind a layer of varnish, the 1941 paneled interior had great potential but needed the equivalent of a new haircut and color (scroll down to see the Before shots). We’re not the only ones admiring the results: the retreat appeared in Jenni Kayne’s blog Rip & Tan (Jenni has been a loyal client of Leanne’s since she was 14) and they shared their photos with us. If seeing them inspires you to make your own pilgrimage, check out Leanne’s on Rip & Tan, antiques shops and hiking trails included.

Above: “Our approach to the remodel was: how can we make this better without spending a fortune?” says Leanne (shown here), noting that she wanted the look to be clean and minimal in contrast to their “stuff-filled” house in LA. The first order of business: Lauren had the entire downstairs whitewashed up to the roofline (it’s Benjamin Moore’s , one of the favorites in our roundup). The sofas are from Restoration Hardware’s  covered in white outdoor fabric: “better for family life,” says Lauren,

Leanne and her husband, Michael Citrone, owner of used exercise equipment business , live with art at home and at work. For the cabin living room, they browsed their own collection and selected Chuck Close’s painting of Philip Glass and LA artist Alison Van Pelt’s Native American portrait Spotted Jack Rabbit.

Lauren placed a patterned carpet over a sisal base: “The layered look adds depth, and in the summer, just the sisal can be used.”

The coffee table is from LA’s f, and the stools are from a local vintage store.
