Mary Elizabeth Winstead Kicks Ass in ‘Kate’ Trailer
The latest female actress to dip her toes into the action genre is the ever-reliable Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World actress plays a highly-skilled assassin who’s betrayed and seeking revenge in Netflix thriller Kate.
Check out the official synopsis and trailer below:
Meticulous and preternaturally skilled, Kate is the perfect specimen of a finely tuned assassin at the height of her game. But when she uncharacteristically blows an assignment targeting a member of the yakuza in Tokyo, she quickly discovers she’s been poisoned, a brutally slow execution that gives her less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her killers. As her body swiftly deteriorates, Kate forms an unlikely bond with the teenage daughter of one of her past victims. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson, and directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Kate follows a burned assassin’s furious pursuit of one last self-appointed job.
Any film involving an assassin looking for revenge has me from the get-go, but when you add in the Yakuza, Woody Harrelson, a teenage sidekick, and plenty of extreme violence, you’ve pretty much ticked all the right boxes.
Along with what looks like great choreographed fight scenes, director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) appears to have captured the neon dystopia of the Tokyo underworld.
Joining Winstead and Harrelson is a cast that includes Tadanobu Asano, Miyavi, Michiel Huisman, Miku Martineau, and Jun Kunimura.
Kate will hit select theaters and Netflix on September 10.
