Scotland to increase tech opportunities

Tech opportunities are slowly gaining in importance in Scotland.

Indeed, a recent report by Adzuna showed that 30% of available vacancies in Edinburgh are in the tech sector, which is higher than any UK city. Glasgow and Edinburgh’s tech opportunities have then increased by more than a quarter over the past two years. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, companies are seeking more tech talents and are looking to support people with the skills they need to excel in the industry.

It was also reported that the roles wanted often require coding or software skills, which usually receive a higher salary. Besides, technical and non-technical roles have a good median salary compared to the cost of living as well. The median digital tech salary in Glasgow is £38,500 compared to £29,000 for all industries, with around 33% of all tech jobs in the city being non-technical roles.

Moreover, tech companies have raised £446 million in investments in Scotland, with Fintech and health tech being the biggest sectors for fundraising.

The report showed that software developers were the most in-demand roles across the industry, who have problem-solving skills, programming languages skills, and are attentive to details. Data scientists are also essential as they can extract, analyse, and interpret large amounts of data and transform them into insights. Employers are often looking for machine learning, analytics, artificial intelligence, statistics, and experience with Python skills.
