Almost Half Of Moms Worry About Not Finding A Solution To Baby's Colic

OnePoll recently conducted a survey on behalf of to inquire into what it’s like for parents if their baby has colic or a cow’s milk allergy. with children between the ages of 2 to 9 years old who had experienced colic and/or an allergy to cow’s milk.

They discovered that almost half of the mothers (49%) worried about not finding a solution to mitigate their baby’s fussiness or symptoms. Many mothers (33%) also worried it would affect their development.









The participants reported spending up to $230 on different remedies and solutions to aid their baby’s colic and/or cow’s milk allergies. Some of the solutions tried included gas drops, probiotics, and bottles designed to better support digestion and prevent colic.









The main colic and allergy remedies tried by the respondents included:










  • An elimination diet, when breastfeeding (42%)


  • Holding their infant for an extended period of time (35%)


  • Laying baby on their tummy (35%)


  • Using a baby swing or bouncer (33%)


  • Holding the baby upright after being fed (33%)





The respondents were also asked about the most frustrating parts of having an infant struggling with colic or a cow’s milk allergy. Many reported that not knowing the reason behind their baby’s fussiness and feeling frustrated themselves was a challenge.














The participants identified the following as the hardest parts of parenting babies with colic and/or a cow’s milk allergy:










  • Extended periods of crying (47%)


  • Not knowing the reason for the baby’s colic (42%)


  • Feeling helpless (34%)


  • Not getting enough sleep (34%)


  • Not knowing the difference between colic symptoms and normal baby behavior (34%)





Additionally, they were asked what they wished they knew beforehand, and the mothers offered the following responses:










  • Colic isn’t a sign of an unhealthy baby (52%)


  • It’s only temporary (39%)


  • Colic is a common problem (38%)


  • It’s okay to not have answers (34%)


  • Giving babies attention doesn’t spoil them (33%)










Finally, as many responses highlighted the toll parenting can take on one’s mental health, the participants were questioned about the biggest sacrifices they’ve made since becoming . They identified the following as what they feel they miss out the most on:










  • Vacations (42%)


  • Sleep (40%)


  • Social life (35%)


  • Self-care (34%)


  • Eating out (29%)





Colic is when babies go through prolonged periods of fussiness, often for no apparent reason, and nothing seems to console the infant. A cow’s milk allergy is an allergy that occurs when the body adversely reacts to proteins in milk. Since cow’s milk is in many , leaving parents who cannot or choose not to breastfeed with slim options.
