Three Unexpected Things You Might Experience Postpartum

If you have recently had a baby, the first thing that we want to say is congratulations. A baby is a wonderful blessing, and one of the best things that you will ever experience in life. However, there are also things about having a baby that people didn’t tell you. When you look on Instagram and other social media platforms, all you see are happy, glowing women who are overcome with joy and love for their child. The problem with this? It’s not the reality for most people. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the truths that nobody told you about having a baby.

Feelings of Being Very Overwhelmed and Frustrated

The first thing that you need to know is that it is okay to . In fact, a lot of people feel this way when they have given birth. Don’t forget, your hormones  are still going crazy inside your body, and now you have this entire new life to take care of. It’s not going to be easy, and it’s easy to start feeling like everything is piling up on top of you. You’re not just taking care of the baby though, you’re also trying to take care of yourself and navigate these new feelings that you are not used to.

Make sure that you have someone, or some people to lean on during this difficult time. If you don’t, we promise you will be okay, it may just be that much harder to get to where you need to be in terms of how you feel about yourself.

Sudden Hair Loss

Another thing that you might be experiencing that nobody told you about is postpartum . It’s a real thing, and it doesn’t feel great when you see your hair coming out. When you were pregnant, your hair likely got really thick and shiny, like it does for most women. This is your hormones hard at work, but after you have given birth, something changes and your hair may start to fall out. It doesn’t happen to everyone, but it’s thought that up to around 90% of women will deal with some form of it, so don’t panic thinking it’s abnormal because it isn’t.

Feeling Really Unhappy About Your Figure Postpartum

For most women, the thought of packing on pounds during pregnancy is daunting. And if you’ve gained more than the suggested 30-35lbs, then losing that weight will prove quite difficult postpartum, and this is especially true if you’ve had a cesarean section. It can happen, but it will take work. And for many women, your will power isn’t always there seeing as now you’re responsible for caring for a tiny human being 24/7.

It’s perfectly okay to feel like you don’t want to leave the house, or that you’re not happy with your appearance. But it’s crucial to your well-being and mental health that you give yourself grace. After all, you just created a human! Give yourself a pat on the back, and don’t compare your pregnancy weight loss journey to anyone else’s—especially that of a celebrity. You likely do not have a full-time nanny, private chef, or personal trainer on your payroll.
