CustardTV News Update: First Look at House of Dragons, Mae Martin joins The Flight Attendant and more.

It's time for another BIG News Update.


*HBO has released the first trailer for Game Of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon which is expected in 2022. The highly-anticipated series bsed on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood,”is set 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen. The series stars Emma D’Arcy as "Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen": The king’s first-born child, she is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider.  Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything… but she was not born a man. Matt Smith as "Prince Daemon Targaryen": The younger brother to King Viserys and heir to the throne.  A peerless warrior and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon.  But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air… Steve Toussaint as "Lord Corlys Velaryon" ("The Sea Snake"): Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen.  As “The Sea Snake,” the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world. Olivia Cooke as "Alicent Hightower": The daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen. Rhys Ifans will star as "Otto Hightower": The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king's brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.

The series is expected to air on Sky Atlantic and the NOW streaming service next year.

*ITV have announced a new four-part drama based around the life of Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian Federal Security Services and KGB officer whose death, from polonium poisoning in November 2006, triggered one of the most complex and dangerous investigations in the history of the Metropolitan Police. Litvinenko is written by Lupin's George Kay and will star David Tenant in the lead role whilst the cast will also feature Mark Bonnar and Neil Maskell. 


*The BBC has revealed that Amanda Burton will be reprising the role of Sam Ryan in Silent Witness to celebrate the drama's 25th anniversary. Burton fronted the show from its 1996 inception until 2004 when her character moved to Ireland to be with her family. Burton will join the current cast members in six new episodes set to air in 2022. 

* The BBC has announced that Vigil is the UK’s most-watched new drama in three years. The six-part submarine thriller’s first episode - made for the BBC by World Productions - attracted an audience of 13.4 million viewers, making it the highest-rated new drama launch across all UK channels since Bodyguard back in 2018.

*Jessica Biel will star in Hulu's upcoming true-crime drama 'Candy,' which follows Candy Montgomery, a Texas woman who killed her friend Betty Gore with an axe in 1980. Biel takes over for Elisabeth Moss, who had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

*HBO have revealed that new episodes of Sex and The City will be airing on HBO Max in December. Sex and The City: Just Like That will see the reunion of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon as Carrie, Samantha and Miranda who are all navigating the dating game in their fifties. Whilst Parker's Carrie has hinted at the return of some familiar faces, it has already been revealed that Kim Catrall will not be completing the quartet as Samantha will not feature in the new episodes. 


*Mae Martin, the star of Channel 4 and Netflix comedy Feel Good will join the cast of HBO Max comedy/drama The Flight Attendant when it returns for a second season. Series star Kaley Cuoco broke the news on her Instagram page sharing two pictures of the pair in costume. The second series of the dark comedy thriller sees Cuoco’s character Cassie Bowden sober and living in LA and moonlighting as a CIA asset. But when an overseas assignment leads her to inadvertently witness a murder, she becomes entangled in another international intrigue. Little is known about the role Martin's character will play in the series. Other cast joining for season two include Cheryl Hines from Curb Your Enthusiasm and comedian Margaret Cho.

*ITV has commissioned the latest drama from World Productions, The team behind Line of Duty and Vigil. An adaptation of Michael Robotham's novel of the same, The Suspect will star Aiden Turner as Dr. Joseph O'Laughlin whose life starts to unravel when he agrees to help the police with a murder case. Directed by James Strong and adapted by Peter Berry, the series will also star Sian Clifford, Shaun Parkes and Adam James. 

*It has been revealed that both the BBC and NBC universal have ordered new versions of original Dutch gameshow The Traitors. Both the British and American versions of the show will be filmed in the Scottish Highlands and be produced by Studio Lambert. An instant hit in its native Holland, The Traitors was described as BBC's director of entertainment Kate Phillips as, 'a high-stakes entertainment series full of false promises and paranoia.'

*BBC Two have revealed that they will be airing the new eight-part drama based around the life of Marie Antoinette. Co-written by Deborah Davis, who earned an Oscar nomination for writing The Favourite, the series will explore Antoinette's life from the fourteen-year-old who married the French Dauphine to her rise as a fearless queen. 

*Channel 4 have announced the line-up for the new series of Celebrity Hunted which is airing as part of their Stand Up 2 Cancer programming. The four teams of famous fugitives will consist of Olympian Iwan Thomas and Paralympian Richard Whitehead; actress Chizzy Akudolu and UK garage star Lisa Maffia; Made in Chelsea's Ollie Locke and his brother Gareth and Drag Race UK's The Vivienne and reality star Chloe Veitch. 

*ITV has started to reveal the line-up of the 2022 series of Dancing on Ice. At time of publication seven names had been announced including Coronation Street's Sally Dyvenor, Happy Mondays icon Bez and Paralympic medallist Stef Reid MBE. Joining them will be singer Rachel Stevens, former rugby player Ben Foden, Love Island's Liberty Poole and Paul Gascoigne's son Regan.
