Welcome to a new feature that we're trialling out here on the site. As we move into a new era for The Custard TV we're looking at ways we can deliver the same content in new ways. Our idea for the news is to give readers a rundown of the stories from the last few days rather than put every story in individual posts. *HBO have finally confirmed when Succession will return. The highly anticipated third season will start on Sunday 17th October. Sky Atlantic normally plays the show at the same time as the US airing with a 9pm on Monday 18th October. The series will also stream here on Now.

*In surprising, but welcome news, Hulu has confirmed that Steve Martin led comedy-drama Only Murders in the Building will return for a second season. Though details about what form the new season will take are thin on the ground, we love spending time with the world Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez inhabit, we'll be quite happy to spend more time in their company. The second series will be available to stream in the UK as part of Star on Disney+ The current season drops episodes on Tuesdays on Disney+ Read our thoughts on the series

*Netflix have commissioned a new feature-length film of Luther, which is being developed by creator Neil Cross. Idris Elba will return as the eponymous detective whilst Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo will feature in supporting roles. 

* Channel 4 have revealed the identity of the contestants for this year's Great British Bake-Off. ahead of its return on the 21st September They include 40-year-old Chigs, who only took up baking during the start of lockdown in 2020, and 28 year-old Rohica, whose takes inspiration from her Caribbean heritage . Also in the competition is Giuseppe, whose Italian background inspires his bakes, and fellow European Jürgen who took up baking when he was unable to find any German bread in the UK. 

*Netflix has released a trailer for its upcoming 10-part drama series Maid starring Margett Qualley of The Leftovers.  The series is inspired by Stephanie Land’s memoir, “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive” and is created and written by “Shameless” writer and playwright Molly Smith Metzler. Netflix released the first trailer on Tuesday, which you can watch below.

Qualley stars as Alex, a young woman who’s recently left an abusive relationship with her young daughter in tow. The two have no money and are living in a shelter. In order to make ends meet, Alex takes to being a maid. Qualley is the predominant focus in the trailer, but there’s an equally impressive cast surrounding her — including her own mother, actress Andie MacDowell. MacDowell plays Alex’s mother, Paula, a woman with undiagnosed bipolar disorder who doesn’t understand her daughter’s motivations to leave the father of her child. Maid lands on Netflix on Friday 1st October.

*Mya Jama has signed on to host Simon Cowell's new ITV singing show Walk the Line. The series is billed as a 'high octane series offering music acts a chance to win a life-changing prize pot of £500,000. The musical acts - be they soloists, duos, bands, or choirs - will take to the stage to perform for the nation, as well as Simon Cowell and a panel of judges. But to win the money, talent alone isn’t enough - the contestants will need nerves of steel as they determine whether to cash out or physically Walk The Line and risk it all to stay in the competition.

*Vicky McClure is reportedly going to co-produce a new ITV drama titled 'Redemption.' 

*Dame Judi Dench, Pixie Lott, Joe Lycett, Alex Scott, Joe Sugg and Josh Widdicombe are among the celebrities confirmed to appear on the new series of the BBC's Who Do You Are? when it returns in October.

* The BBC drama series, Accused from Jimmy McGovern is one of the library titles which will be added to BritBox next month. The series, which ran for two series, follows a number of people accused of different crimes await their verdict in court while they try to remember the incident that ruined their lives. Created by Jimmy McGovern and starring Christopher Eccleston Juliet Stevenson, Marc Warren, Sheridan Smith Stephen Graham, Sean Bean and John Bishop. The series will be available from Thursday 14th October. Other October highlights on BritBox include the three-part drama Public Enemies. Released from prison after serving 10 years for murder, Eddie tries to adjust to life outside with the help of his probation officer, Paula. Starring Anna Friel and Daniel Mays and the first three series of Channel 4's reality series Hunted.

*The BBC and Amazon Studios have released more first look images from the upcoming series, The Outlaws (previously The Offenders), from multi-award-winning writer and director Stephen Merchant.

The Outlaws follows seven strangers from different walks of life forced together to complete a Community Payback sentence in Bristol. At first, they seem like archetypes we can easily pigeonhole, but gradually we see behind their façades, understand their hidden depths, and what made them the people they are today. We are reminded that no one is all good or all bad. Everyone has a story. As their unlikely new friendships intersect with their complicated private lives, The Outlaws must unite to protect one of their own from Bristol’s most dangerous criminal gang. The show is part crime thriller, and part character study - with humour and heart.

The new six-part series will air this Autumn on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and then later on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Nordic countries.  Global Distribution is handled by BBC Studios.

*This weekend, the Creative Arts Emmys — which honour outstanding artistic and technical achievement in a variety of television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, as well as exceptional work in the animation, reality, and documentary categories. The notable winners included The Queen's Gambit which won for Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Outstanding Period Costumes and Outstanding Period Makeup and/or Character Makeup.  Pose for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes, Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling. HBO's Mare of Easttown won Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More) Other big winners included Wandavision and The Mandalorian on Disney + The Crown on Netflix and Ru Paul's Drag Race. Claire Foy won an award for her guest appearance as Queen Elizabeth in the latest season of the acclaimed Netflix Royal drama. The Crown was tied (with The Mandalorian) for the most nominations by a series this year with 24.

*Netflix has confirmed that the third season of Narcos: New Mexico will be its last. The final 10-episode season has a confirmed date of Friday 5th November.

*Netflix has released the trailer for Danish crime drama The Chesnut Man from the man behind The Killing Søren Sveistrup. 

The six-part series is set in the quiet suburb of Copenhagen, where the police make a terrible discovery one blustery October morning. A young woman is found brutally murdered in a playground and one of her hands is missing. Above her hangs a small man made of chestnuts. The ambitious young detective Naia Thulin is assigned to the case, along with her new partner, Mark Hess. They soon discover a mysterious piece of evidence on the chestnut man evidence connecting it to a girl who went missing a year earlier and was presumed dead - the daughter of politician Rosa Hartung.
