Pokémon GO Glitch Turns Gym Into a PokéStop & Causes Pokémon To Vanish

An unfortunate  glitch has caused a Pokémon Gym to disappear, and a trainer's beloved Slaking along with it. 2021 marks the five-year anniversary of the mobile alternate reality game, which allows players to travel around the real world to find, battle and capture digital Pokémon. While Pokémon GO has amassed a very large community of players around the world, the game does occasionally suffer from serious technical issues.

Pokémon GO glitches are not exactly rare, and players are often distraught when issues cause them to lose well-earned items or Pokémon. Recently,  has caused some players to miss out on the ongoing Secrets of the Jungle in-game event. The event allows players the rare opportunity to encounter and battle Team Rocket, as the franchise antagonists can sometimes be seen traveling in a hot air balloon shaped like their iconic companion Meowth. While the balloon is meant to be a rare sight, an apparent glitch has made some players completely unable to encounter Team Rocket at all. This bars these unluckly players from participating in the Secrets of the Jungle encounter, though the Pokémon Zarude can still be faced in a Special Research event. Other frustrating Pokémon GO glitches, such as , can also result in some frustration from players.

Reddit user and Pokémon GO trainer  has reported a very unfortunate in-game glitch. According to scooterdood, they left their Pokémon Slaking in a nearby Pokémon Gym overnight. Upon returning the next day, the Gym had randomly transformed into a PokéStop location. This resulted in scooterdood losing their beloved Slaking, with no in-game explanation available for why a Gym would suddenly become a PokéStop overnight.

While in-game glitches are usually harmful to Pokémon Go players, technical issues can sometimes give Pokémon trainers an advantage instead. The alternate reality game allows players to acquire eggs, which can be hatched after walking a certain distance. The contents of these eggs are typically a complete mystery, but one player recently encountered a glitch which allowed them to see . Reddit user Azazicc was able to see that their egg contained a Darumaka, allowing them to prioritize hatching it to gain the Fire-type creature.

Pokémon GO is played by millions of people around the world, so some users are bound to encounter technical issues. These glitches can often ruin a player's experience, such as scooterdood's valuable Slaking disappearing from the game completely. While this particular trainer appears to have taken the loss in stride, other gamers would be far more upset by the bug. Pokémon Gyms should not randomly transform into PokéStops, so Niantic may need to investigate this bizarre occurrence.
