Lithuanian firms among victims of Chinese hacking
Lithuanian companies were among those attacked by the Chinese hackers who tried to steal trade secrets from firms in 11 countries, the United States Department of Justice said on Tuesday.
Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius has confirmed to BNS that the Lithuanian institutions are aware of the incident and are investigating it together with international partners.
“We were informed, the responsible institutions are investigating [the hacking], and we are cooperating with the EU, NATO, and other partners to prevent such actions,” said Linkevičius.
The statement by the US Justice Department identified two Chinese hackers that have been conducting attacks “against the countries with IT industry, including the US, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, and the UK,” for the past ten years.
The indictment mentioned a Lithuanian video games company from which 38 gigabytes of data have been stolen by the hackers.
The same Chinese hackers were also said to be responsible for attacking human rights activists in the US, China, and Hong Kong, as well as the companies that have been developing medicine and vaccines for the coronavirus.
