Gel package safeguards barometric pressure sensor
A tiny gel-infused package protects Bosch’s BMP384 barometric pressure sensor from the ingress of water, dust, and other contaminants. With dimensions of just 2×2×1 mm, this robust sensor is well-suited for wearables, like smartwatches and fitness trackers, as well as home appliances and industrial applications.
The BMP384 barometric pressure sensor has a wide measurement range from 300 to 1250 hPa and from -40°C to +85°C. Despite its small size and ruggedness, the device provides relative accuracy of ±9 Pa, which is equivalent to a ±75-cm difference in altitude. Other specifications include absolute accuracy of ±50 pA and a temperature coefficient offset of ±1 pA/K.
Current consumption of just 3.4 mA at a 1 Hz (2.0 μA in sleep mode) allows the BMP384 to be used in battery-powered consumer electronics. The sensor has wide VDD and VDDIO ranges of 1.65 to 3.6V and 1.2 to 3.6V, respectively. It also furnishes I2C and SPI (3-wire/4-wire) digital interfaces, along with an integrated 512-byte FIFO buffer.
Available now, the BMP384 barometric pressure sensor comes in a 10-pin LGA package with a metal lid.
